My interest in painting is linked with my experience as a psychotherapist because both involve relationships and the process of discovery. As an artist, I have an intimate emotional and visual connection with each painting.

In beginning, I work spontaneously without planning ahead very much. I choose the background color that appeals to me at the time for the first coat of paint and then perhaps a different color for the second coat. There may be a third coat. Now itʼs time for some paint strokes or pattern. Staying in the present moment and being open to what reveals itself to me, I continue to work as I watch the painting evolve. I have learned to trust the process without knowing precisely where it will lead. I feel the tension of earnestness and playfulness within me while I work.

Inspiration comes from the incredible beauty of our world and the glory of its
ever changing panorama of patterns and colors. As I savor the sky, ocean and lushness of the Earth, I feel uplifted and am inspired to communicate the sense of awe that their beauty and essential vitality evoke within me.

In my most recent work, I have been exploring collage and acrylic. I am intrigued by the interplay of color,
textures and patterns, and by the dynamism of the composition as it emerges. Finally, when I feel the painting captures that “unknown something” satisfying to me, I know I must stop and allow the painting to have a life of its own.
